Check out this awesome KOA campground in Livingston, Montana. A great break from traveling on the road. Plenty of amenities to get back on the road.
Let’s start this by saying that I am not a fan of staying at paid campsites. But, I was in a pickle and couldn’t find a place to sleep when cursing through Montana.
Crossing the Yellowstone

After some driving up from Yellowstone National Park, I found this place on the map. It was dark and we just needed some sleep, so I figured I have never stayed at an KOA campsite, so lets check it out.
This KOA is located in Livingston, Montana just over the other side of the Yellowstone River.

The Entrance

Great for anyone, this KOA accommodates almost any type of camping. If you are a Van Lifer, Truck Camper, tent sleeper, or even a home on the road in an RV type of person, this place rocked!

You will love this place if you have kids because the campgrounds have many activities to do from fishing in the near by river, wild life viewing, an indoor covered swimming pool and an outside playground.
FOR VAN LIFERS AND TRUCK CAMPERS
Although we are trying not to spend much money on accommodations, which is why I have avoided places like this in most of my travels, this place is a nice stop. They have showers, restrooms, and washing machines.
We took full advantage of all the amenities on site, even though we arrived late, we just filled our yeti mugs with beers, and sat in the laundry room and played the games they had on site, as well as some games I always bring with me on my travels while we waited for the laundry to finish.

They also have a front office, while closed at night, in the morning they have snacks, food, camping supplies, and a super friendly host that can answer any questions you may think up.
MY CAMPSITE AT THE KOA CAMPGROUND IN LIVINGSTON MONTNA

The back of my truck is outfitted for sleeping. There is a bed in the back and storage for all my gear. Its warm, dry, and comfortable. It also keeps me sheltered from the elements. I call it my “Dirt Baggin Wagon.”

All I have to do to get my bed set up for sleeping in the back is to pull out my table from the back, and move my duffle bag to the from of the vehicle. You can see some of the gear I take on the road trip.

When we pulled in the night before; we found there was only about 3-4 campsites available. We picked the cheapest one left, and we were pleased with it. Not far from the facilities, but still on the edge of the campground it worked!

It had a bench for breakfast and had we stayed, would have served us well for lunch too. Hopefully when you visit you will have time to make use of the fire pit and picnic tables.

The Consensus of the KOA Campground in Livingston Montana
Overall, my feelings toward a KOA has changed. This KOA campground in Livingston, Montana has well kept grounds with a lot of amenities and it seems they are usually located in or near great spots to check out.
Although I will still try to stay places where I can find free or dirt cheap camping, this one was worth it. Plus we had clean clothes and showers which we desperately needed!

Nice!
Thank you!
I don’t normally do this, but of all the bloggers I follow, I thought you would want to know about this. This link is from another WordPress blogger I follow who is a former national park ranger. It’s about a new threat to national parks. Given your love for the undeveloped wild land, I thought you should see it.

Thanks for sending me this! I will check it out!
I read the post. Sad, hopefully none of it actually happens. I think we need to decrease the already standing “extra” amenities, not increase them. The parks service should be encouraging people that if you cant bring in your own crap and take it back out with you, then you shouldn’t be visiting the National Parks. Thank you for sharing it with me.
