Maha’ulepu Beach in Kauai is a beautiful secluded beach in Kauai that few if any people know of. When I visited I only saw about 4 other people there. It was awesome. The surf wasn’t too high as it is on the south side of the beach.
Maha’ulepu Beach in Kauai

You can find the beach by driving to it, or hiking the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail to the Makauwahi Caves. I wrote about the Makauwahi Caves in another post.

Getting to Maha’ulepu Beach is simple. Go to the same place you would go to see Makauwahi caves, cross the bridge and take the trail to the left. It will lead you along a small creek that runs into the ocean.

In the photo below you can also see Gillin’s Beach in the distance. It’s just a short walk away, and is probably worth taking the walk to see what else is over there. I went the other way.

There is a small rock outcropping that goes out along the more western side of the beach. This outcropping goes to a small cliff where you can see another small beach not far away.

Looking back from the small rock outcropping you can see Maha’ulepu Beach, the clear water and soft sand, and that there is no-one there. This is what I liked the most about this beach was that it was somewhat secluded which kept it quiet and peaceful.
“All I could hear was the crash of the waves.”

While standing on the rock sticking out in the ocean, you can look west toward the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail and some awesome looking cliffs. I wonder if I can jump off of them?
Another secret beach?
Between the rock I was standing and the cliffs off in the distance, there is another small beach. Tide was high when I was there so I had to find a small trail to this beach. If tide is low you can walk in front of the rock outcropping.

I went to find the trail that got me back to that beach. I took a few photos along the way and it was just beautiful! The plants mixed with the sand rocks, and beach were awesome!

Through the very very short trail through the trees I made it to the beach, and it was beautiful! It felt even more secluded that the original one, and it had some rocks to climb up on and I believe this is where the Maha’ulepu Trail begins or ends, depending which way you go.

The rocks on the right side of this beach looked enticing to climb around on. I walked on over and climbed up top to see what views would be offered to my by the island.

On top of the rock you can see from above, the Maha’ulepu beach. You can also see the rock outcropping that I was standing on earlier. That shack over there is the Gillin’s shack, and Gillin’s Beach is in front of it. What a beautiful place! I was stoked to be here and excited to be on the beach.
Too Stoked to be on the Maha’ulepu beach!
Maha’ulepu Beach in Kauai is absolutely worth the stop to have lunch, or sit down and have some adult beverages. There is no shortage of these on the islands. Take a dip in the pristine waters, and catch some sun rays!
