During my time spent in Wyoming, I made a visit to Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring. It is the largest hot spring in the United States situated on the Americas largest volcanic field.
How cool is it to be standing on a super volcano that could erupt and wipe out 2/3 of America? Heres what we found when we were there.
To get to the view point, take the Fairy Falls Trail for half a mile to get to the overlook. You can see several small geysers, and cross a river with geysers spilling into it along the hike.
Fairy Falls Trail to The Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook

From where I parked at the Fairy Falls parking area, this was one of the first hot spring pools that I found. I really felt like I was in a volcanic place, it was located just south of the steel bridge pool.
Continue on up the trail though, you get to pass a bridge crossing the Firehole river. There are several small geysers along the way you can see pouring into the firehouse river.

Once you pass the bridge on the Firehole River, you will pass a few other small hot spring pools along the way. You can see some of the mini geysers flowing into the river in the photo above.

Before long on the flat Fairy Falls trail, you will start heading up hill and get some glimpses of Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring.
Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring

Once you get a look at the spring, don’t turn back because there is an even better spot to see it from. Continue on the trail, it’s slightly upward but pretty easy.

Probably one of the gnarliest things I have gotten to see in the wild world. The colors of this spring really popped and amazed me that these colors could exist in nature. Im slightly color blind to pastels my optometrist says, but I could for sure see the blues, oranges, and yellows of this spring.

The views from above don’t compare to the views down below. You just don’t get a sense of how big Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring really is. Its huge, and so colorful which you can only see from the viewpoint from above.
I urge you to take this short walk up to the viewpoint on the Fairy Falls Trail to get a glimpse of the huge colorful geyser on the super volcano in Yellowstone National Park. If you want to see more things to see in Yellowstone check out my other blog post on what to see in Yellowstone.

I saw this one last little spring on the trail, on the way back to my truck. I told it to keep working and growing, one day you will be big and strong like your brothers around the park.
